How To Repair Damaged Cab Over Rv
Information technology's time for your Class C motorhome over cab repair – that'south exciting! And it's probably going to accept a lot less time and coin than you may think, which is even better.
Assess Damage
When you buy a used RV, chances are you volition need to address water impairment. One of the more common areas for water impairment within Class C motorhomes is the over cab bunk surface area.
We bought a 1996 and when we started to dig in, this is a what we found:
-
Insulation boards. -
Rotting wood. -
Needs help.
Remove Damaged Material
At that place was clearly water damage that caused wood rot and there was enough of it that nosotros only tore everything up and put in new insulation and boards.
After pulling out the rotted forest, we scraped up the pieces that were stuck and left behind. We vacuumed and prepped for a fresh beginning.
Install New Material
From wall to wall, we laid new insulation boards, followed by some double chimera insulation. The chimera insulation provides a little extra thermal barrier to help prevent condensation.
Next up was laying plywood. Nosotros wanted to keep the hinged section, which allows the bed to lift a lilliputian for easier motility between the cab and within of the RV, so we cut accordingly.
-
First base layer of plywood. -
Final product with added cubbies!
And finally, we used a thicker, higher quality board as the final base. We hinged to two boards so we would still exist able to lift that department if we wanted to.
Originally the sides of the overhead bunk had carpeted end pieces with no existent purpose to them other than framing in the mattress. Nosotros removed those and congenital cubbies for the kids.
Enjoy the Final Production!
All said and done, this project took most half a twenty-four hours and cost about $150. Not bad!
